Some products have been on the shelves for years without you ever really paying attention to them. Rose water is a good example of this. It smells nice, is easy to use, and has been used in various beauty rituals for centuries.
And the best part is: you usually don’t have to spend a fortune on it. A simple bottle of rose water can be used for a surprising number of applications.
An age-old beauty product
Rose water is made with rose petals and has a long history in skincare and cosmetics. The product is particularly appreciated for its typical rose scent and the fresh feeling on the skin.
It is important, however, that you actually buy rose water that is suitable for the purpose for which you want to use it. Rose syrup from the supermarket is, of course, something completely different.
But what can you do with a little bottle like that?
1. Wonderfully cooling for tired eyes
After a short night, your eyes may feel a bit puffy. A simple trick is to moisten two cotton pads with a little chilled rose water.
Place them on your closed eyes for a few minutes while you lie back comfortably.
The cooling effect, in particular, can feel pleasant. If necessary, store the rose water in the refrigerator so that it is nice and cold when you use it.
Of course, make sure that the product does not get into your eyes. 2. Use it as a refreshing face mist
This is perhaps the simplest application.
Put some rose water in a small spray bottle and you have a lovely facial mist for warm days. Just spray a little bit over your face and your skin will immediately feel much fresher.
Ideal to take with you in your handbag during the summer, for example.
3. Also useful for skin that feels dry
Do you have tight skin after showering or cleansing? Then you can apply a little rose water to a cotton pad and gently wipe it over your face.
Don’t expect miracles: rose water doesn’t replace a good moisturizer. But as part of your skincare routine, it can feel nice and fresh.
Do you have sensitive skin? Then test the product on a small patch of skin first.
4. Freshen up your hair with it
Rose water is also regularly used for your hair.
You can mix a little rose water with plain water and lightly distribute it over your hair. The fresh floral scent, in particular, makes this a nice trick when your hair could use a little refresh.
Do not use too much; a few sprays are often sufficient.
5. Make your bedding smell wonderful
This application actually has nothing to do with beauty, but it might just be one of the most fun.
Mix a little rose water with water in a spray bottle and spray a small amount over your freshly changed bedding.
This way, your bedroom gets a subtle floral scent without having to use all kinds of heavy perfumes.
Be sure to test the mixture on an inconspicuous piece of fabric first to prevent stains.
6. As part of your cleansing routine
Rose water is also often used after makeup has been removed. Put some on a cotton pad and gently wipe over the skin.
For light makeup, it can sometimes help remove residue, but for waterproof mascara or long-lasting foundation, you probably need a real makeup remover.
So think of it mainly as a nice final step of your cleansing routine.
7. Men can also use it
Rose water is often listed among beauty products, but of course there is no reason why only women should use it.
After shaving, a little rose water, for example, can feel fresh and cooling. Especially when you keep the bottle in the refrigerator.
The same applies here: not every skin reacts the same way. Stop if you experience irritation.
Beware of the famous lemon trick
You regularly come across the tip online to mix rose water with lemon juice and then apply it to pimples or acne.
We would be cautious with that.
Lemon juice is quite acidic and can irritate the skin. Especially in combination with sunlight, applying lemon juice directly to your face is not a great experiment. Those who suffer heavily from acne are better off using products specifically intended for that purpose.
A simple bottle with surprisingly many possibilities
So, rose water is one of those products that you buy for a single application and can then use in all sorts of other ways.
As a facial mist, for a fresh feeling around tired eyes, to freshen up your hair, or simply to make your bedding smell wonderfully of roses.
And perhaps such a bottle has been sitting at your drugstore for years without you ever having looked at it.
